The fires on the Cuyahoga River left Cleveland with practically little to hope for. But this once great city strives hard to get back to their feet. Many businesses such as companies in the line of real estate and home window replacement in Cleveland are putting their best efforts to recover from an unforgettable disaster. And indeed, the whole city is getting back not in the line of real estate and home industry but in the line of good food that’s unique to Cleveland only.
In an article in the October 2016 issue of Cleveland Magazine, Alex Baca mentions the national honor of the city’s food culture but wondered if it could get through the storm without a unique identity. In the Los Angeles Times, Cleveland is called the city of hot new dining; TIME listed it as the country’s seventh largest food city.
Cleveland’s Culinary Scenes
To learn about Cleveland’s culinary scenes, one must look at the high and low levels of Cleveland’s food and restaurant business and then see them at an identical angle. Mabel’s is not just the place to find Symon’s food on Cleveland’s “low-level” tradition. Lola’s excellent beef cheek dumplings are made from Sokolowski’s potato and cheese dumplings. Sawyer did a lot of the same thing for their famous roast pig head at the Greenhouse Tavern. At the “low end”, there are restaurant-style improvements and changes to the typical themes exclusive to Northeastern Ohio. At the same time, “high end” continues to have a solid groundwork in the countrywide and working-class customs of Cleveland.
Every year, fewer people will remember the fire at the Cuyahoga River. It will eventually turn into among those misguided beliefs that cannot really differentiate the truth or the fiction- a river on fire seems impossible! Nonetheless, Great Lakes Brewery named one of their popular beers “Burning River Pale Ale”, but the founder also set up the Burning River Music Festival. A large number of other Cleveland companies have used the nickname “The Burning River” as a proud act of healing and satire. However, for others, they still suffer from painful burns.
Even so, they should not cover up the reality that Cleveland has that genuine food scenes that can conveniently rank in the top ten foods in the country. It does it in its own way – the way of Cleveland, one foot at the high and the other at the low, while the overall is significantly larger than the total of its components.
